Some news about 2nd Chinese R conference

Is there any thing worse than that you are unable to update a Chinese blog in China? The only choice for me now is to write down the news in this academic blog first.

These days I am in Beijing and enjoying the GREAT R conference. In fact I just wrote down a lot about it in Chinese but I can only appreciate it myself. However, as you know, translating Chinese words to English is really head-aching, and at least Repeating is not an interesting thing to do. Therefore, I just write a new one instead.

New friends. I am really surprised by the broad applications of R, or statistics. At the same time, I meet so many great people and we exchange ideas with each other. As a blogger and economics student myself, I focus more on how to make my presentation attractive than its depth or academic value. Many new ideas open a door for me to realize that how wonderful the world is.

Spirit. Open-source, free and flexible make R distinct. I should admit it does cost me a lot of time to study R. But now I think it worthy that time. At least I can enter the statistical world instead of observing it outside the window.

Cooperate. The integration of R and thousands of statistical methods are really helpful for different areas. I think economics will benefit a lot from the spread of R.

At this moment, I cannot think of anything else. In the following week I’ll revise my beamer for Shanghai’s conference. I’ll make it different, since I don’t want that my audience lost interests in the repeated presentation. If anything new, I’ll update on this blog. See you SH!

  1. Hey!!!I’m joining economics program at BGSE next semester. I’m an engineering student and also playing with R soooo much!! I m currently working on some financial modeling on R and I studied some forecasting methods with R :) While looking for sample master thesis, I realized your interest to R, and it s really amazing to see an economics student enjoys R that much! I definitely agree with you, it s really great program. I don t have an idea about its econometrics applications, but I ll definitely read your manual about it. Best luck!
